The research process and the opinion piece were both challenging and rewarding. It was relatively successful and I gained a lot of knowledge about my topic. In my opinion, the methods of interviewing and surveying were both valuable methods, as they enabled me to obtain data I was not expecting, and enabled me to go into broader depth of my topic.
As seen in my second assessment, project design and management, I made a risk matrix and a Gantt chart. These two management techniques helped me a lot in my time management and helped me to make my interviews and surveys’ meet the ethical guidelines. I used the gantt chart to use my time efficiently both in class an outside class. I used the risk matrix to assess potential risks and confidentiality guidelines. I will definitely use these techniques in future research projects.
The interviewing process was the most successful form of research. My topic was broad so I found it easy to find people who were willing to participate. Using interviews was a great method, as I was able to go further in depth and get elaborate responses from the interviewees. It was also a fun experience and I got to meet new people.
Writing the opinion piece was challenging, as it was a new process to me. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I found it easier to write using a personal voice, because I could communicate my results better. It didn’t feel as if it was forced, and I really wantd to communicate my results effectively, which the opinion piece enabled me to do.
I am pleased to be finished with the research project. It was challenging at times, but was also very interesting to talk with other students and hear about their relationship with caffeine, and their opinion of caffeine related to university. The project broadened my understanding of what makes a student, and surprised me in the best of ways.
